Many farmers underestimate the importance of road network within the oil palm plantation at the on set of land preparations. They only concentrate on land clearing followed by planting. This is not a good practice. They allow the young oil palms to mature to the time of harvest before they start thinking of access roads within the plantation. Many farmers do not even realise the economic loss incurred from inadequate, bad, or no road network. Poor access results in damaged fresh fruit bunches (FFB), bad quality of crude palm oil (CPO), low yield per hectare, and poor maintenance.
Good road network provides unimpeded access to vehicles for planting, maintenance operations and transportation of fruit bunches. It maximises collection efficiency of FFB.
